How to create a 3d layered mandala

3D Layered Mandala

Crafters love Mandalas as they look gorgeous almost on anything. Be it your pillow or your living room wall, mandalas are the most beautiful. With the growing market of cutting machines, crafters are finding new ways to create exciting stuff.

One of the them is creating a layered 3d mandala. A layered 3d mandala can be created using basic cardstock using your Cricut or Silhouette machines. This can also be used to create using wood if you own a laser cutter.

Brushkite is the only application that has a 3d Mandala Designer using which you can design custom layered mandalas of your choice.

Let's go through each section of the mandala creator as shown below.

1. Section thumbnails

A mandala is a symmetric rotation of design elements. A section is design that fits in the sector of a mandala circle. Mostly, mandala designs of Brushkite have 3 sections - 1. Center, Middle and Outer sections.

If you click on the section 1 thumbnails you can see the outer part of the mandala generated on the stage. Similarly, if you click on the section 2, you can see the middle part of the mandala on the stage. Lastly, if you select a thumbnail from the section 3, the center part of mandala is generated.

Let's begin! We have divided the tutorial into 4 steps.

Step 1.

Go to the vector editor tab > select the graphics panel button

Select the uploads tab in the graphics panel > choose the butterfly outline that you uploaded using the outline premium template. You should see a black butterfly outline on the stage.

How to create an outline using the premium template

Outline Premium Template

The outline premium template has been one of the favorite design template for all our Brushkite members. It was one of the most requested feature which was eventually added to the premium templates section by our team.

Outline can be really helpful when you want to cut your favorite text as a sign. For example a "Thank you" sign or a "Welcome" sign as shown below.

Or any basic design or graphics. If you have a cricut, silhouette or a laser cutter machine you can make use of various materials to design layered text and graphics.

As you can see below, the outline feature has few simple elements.

Design a custom letter cut design

Custom Letter Cut Design

There is a lot more you can do using Brushkite with some simple little hacks. Let' see how we can create this beautiful letter cut design using the 2d mandala and the vector editor.

Type the letter "B" and select or upload a fancy font. We have used the "Agreloy" font here from the list. Now select the plain text effects (3rd text effects from top) > right click and select copy image > right click paste in the uploads section as shown below.

Go to the mandala tab > select the first shape mandala template (template with the elephant) switch to 2d mandala from the top menu option. refer here Copy the stage output > paste it in the uploads section as shown below.

Position the mandala designs as shown below using the navigation buttons on top. Copy paste each of these designs and paste it in the uploads section.
